Tongji’s Communication Engineering Major was derived from the Department of Mechanical and Electrical l Engineering of Tongji Medical and Engineering School established in 1912. The Communication Engineering Major was selected as one of the majors in MOE’s Excellent Engineers Education Training Plan in 2011. In the context of cultivating broader-based communication engineering talents with more cross-disciplinary general knowledge, Tongji’s Communication Engineering Major is characterized by its being specialized on communication and information processing for intelligent networked vehicles and rail transit, and highlighted technologies in these fields for ground transportation and the rail transit industry, including mobile Internet, intelligent vehicles, unmanned train communication and control, Internet of Things and sensor networks. This Major involves the participation of many famous domestic scholars including outstanding discipline leaders in Shanghai. Some core courses are taught in English, and five core courses are selected Shanghai Major Courses. In both teaching and scientific research, the Major has developed particular expertise in communication and information processing for ground transportation and rail transit. The Major’s ranking is among the top 5% in China, and its research direction is both at the domestic and international advanced level. The undergraduates have a wide range of employment opportunities, as well as opportunities for overseas exchange and further study. They benefit from a high employment rate (the employment rate ranks among the top 5 in domestic majors), while the annual income of graduating undergraduate students ranks in the top 10% of the university
Core courses comprise: Information Theory and Coding Theory, Communication System Principles, High Frequency Electronic Circuit, Microwave and Intelligent Antenna, Digital Signal Processing, Computer Communication Network, Fiber-Optic Communication System, Principles of Wireless Communication, Wireless Communication Principles and Systems, Information Exchange Technology, Digital Speech Processing, Intelligent Image Processing, Modern Communication and Information Technology, and Embedded System.
