Time:November 18, 2015          Browse:

Amid the drizzle in the city, melodious sound of the flute, and refreshing aroma of tea, foreign students experienced tea ceremony at the library of Jiading Campus on the evening of November the 12th.

The event commenced with a student from the English Corner of Jiading Campus familiarizing the participants with the basic background knowledge in relation to the varieties, places of origin, and production methods of Chinese tea. Tea in China, is definitely more than a drink -- it is also a symbol of our culture. Then, students from Caiwei Tea Club staged a performance of tea ceremony, which caused the aromas of tea to fill the air and while the deep meaning of Chinese tea culture was conveyed in students’ graceful movements. Subsequently, the foreign students had the chance to put into practice the etiquette of tea-tasting. They picked up a tea cup with three fingers, taking three sips of tea and dabbed the table with two fingers to express their appreciation. Moreover, students from Jinyin Flute Club showed how bamboo flutes worked and foreign students were just immersed in the beautiful sound of flutes, in a harmonic hybrid of tenderness and bitterness. After this presentation, the foreign students could not wait to try the flute themselves and practice their tea tasting skills Under the guidance of the students from the clubs, some foreign students started playing flute by practicing scales while others continue learning to perform tea ceremony. Both of the groups become very confident and their movements were almost “professional”. All of the students found these activities fascinating.

This event was presented under the banner “Being a guest in China, being loved by Jiading Campus” It is one of the serial activities sponsored by the library of Jiading campus. It was aimed to improve foreign students’ Chinese proficiency and help them understand Chinese culture, thereby promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere.
