Adaptive Decision-making of Autonomous Driving Vehicles

Time:April 17, 2025          Browse:

On April 16th, 2025, the 77th Zhi Xin Forum was held in Lecture Hall 117 at the Zhi Xin Building, which was jointly organized by the College of Electronic and Information Engineering and Shanghai Institute of Intelligent Science and Technology of Tongji University. Prof. Jinjun Shan from York University was invited to give a lecture on “Adaptive Decision-making of Autonomous Driving Vehicles”.

In this report, Professor Shan introduced his team's research achievements in adaptive decision-making of autonomous vehicles. The decision of autonomous vehicle is very important to its safety and efficiency. However, since autonomous vehicle will share traffic roads with human driving cars, pedestrians and other road users in the future, it is a huge challenge to make fast and optimal decisions in complex traffic environments, such as unsignalized intersections, lane changes, etc. In this environment, autonomous vehicle need to evaluate and predict the driving behavior and intention of adjacent vehicles to optimize and adjust their own driving strategies, and also need to consider the uncertainty caused by incomplete observation.

After the report, Prof. Shan had a cordial exchange and discussion with the participating teachers and students, and he also encouraged them to actively broaden their horizons, explore, discover and solve new scientific problems based on his own experience. This report further expanded the vision of our teachers and students and enhanced their understanding and knowledge of adaptive decision-making of autonomous vehicles.
