Perpetual Scheduling of Machine Maintenance with Varying Service Frequencies

Time:September 9, 2024          Browse:

On September 5th, 2024, the 69th Zhi Xin forum was held in Room 305. This forum was jointly organized by the College of Electronic and Information Engineering, Tongji University and Shanghai Research Institute for Intelligent Autonomous Systems. Prof. Tomasz Radzik from King's College London, UK, was invited to give a talk on “Perpetual Scheduling of Machine Maintenance with Varying Service Frequencies”, which was moderated by Prof.Hao Zhang.

First, Prof. Tomasz Radzik introduced concepts and definitions related to machine maintenance, in which machines need to operate at many different but known service frequencies. Then, he provided a detailed introduction to the perpetual scheduling problem of machine maintenance, with the goal of developing a permanent machine maintenance plan for individual maintenance personnel to minimize the maximum time that a single machine can wait for the next service. Prof. Tomasz Radzik also analyzed the optimization problems and difficulties that arise when the data stream continuously fills n buffers. Furthermore, Prof. Tomasz Radzik studied both discrete and continuous variants of this type of optimization problem and designed corresponding algorithms to solve them, with the difference being whether the movement time between machines is the same for different machines. Finally, Prof. Tomasz Radzik validated the proposed algorithm through simulation and emphasized the unresolved issues.

After the talk, Prof. Tomasz Radzikhad a cordial exchange and discussion with the participating teachers and students, and he also encouraged them to actively broaden their horizons, explore, discover, and solve new scientific problems based on his own experience. This talk further expanded the vision of our teachers and students and enhanced their knowledge and understanding of the field of machine maintenance.
