I、Brief Introduction
This Master program offered by the Discipline of Information and Communication Engineering at Tongji University is a Master of Science academic degree program. It contains two sub-disciplines: Communication and Information Systems, and Signal and Information Processing.
The discipline of information and communication engineering is a core discipline in information science. The research is based on modern communication theory and signal processing theory, and combines mathematics and physics to investigate the principles and technical solutions of signal detection, spectrum estimation, channel characterization, information coding, and information and communication systems, to realize efficient and effective information acquisition, processing, transmission, and utilization.
The Discipline of Information and Communication Engineering at Tongji University was established and started recruiting undergraduate students in 1958. It gained the qualifications of offering Master degree in the sub-disciplines of signal and information processing, and of communication and information systems, in 1984 and 1996, respectively. Since 2005, the Discipline has been eligible to grant Master degree in the discipline of information and communication engineering.
The faculty of the Discipline is composed of 21 Master Supervisors, including 11 professors. The Discipline has 1 Shanghai Outstanding Academic Leader, 1 IET Fellow, 1 EU Marie Curie Fellow, 1 Krupp scholar, and 3 Shanghai Pujiang Scholars. In the past five years, the total research funding is over 90 million CNY. The faculty has published a total of 6 books, more than 500 scientific papers, including over 200 SCI/EI indexed papers and one ESI paper, and tens of patents. It has received 6 awards from the Shanghai government and the Ministry of Education of China, and has trained over 500 Master students.
The research of the Discipline focuses on various cutting-edge hot topics in information and communication engineering, as well as cross-disciplinary topics with computer science, and control engineering. The main research directions are as follows: communication and information processing for Internet of vehicles (IoV) systems, rail traffic signal and communication theory and technology, broadband wireless communication theory and system, fiber optical communication and sensor technology and system, and signal theory and information processing. The research works on communication and signal processing for road transportation and rail traffic systems have strong industry background and characteristics, and are on the top level in China. The faculty members have formed a strong and productive collaborative research team, and have established solid research track-records. The Discipline provides its students and faculty members with excellent academic atmosphere, research facility, and platform for national and international collaborations.
The Discipline has wide national and international collaborations. It has established research and postgraduate education cooperation with a number of top universities in Germany, France, Italy, USA, and Finland, etc. It has also conducted joint research projects with leading companies including UTC (USA), Microsoft (USA), Cisco (USA), Fujitsu (Japan), Huawei, Datang Group, Changan Group, SAIC Motor, Shentong, etc.
This discipline awards Master's Degree in Master of Engineering.
